Quad in Motion 2024

It was a beautiful, sunny day in October as 440 UA faculty and staff members ventured to the quad to participate in the 10th annual Quad in Motion event. Quad in Motion is all about encouraging and facilitating physical activity during the workday. Sitting and working for eight hours a day, 5 days a week without any sort of movement can put your physical and mental health at risk. Research shows that taking a short break at least once throughout the workday promotes a healthy heart, stronger muscles and bones, plus increases critical thinking and problem solving.

Wellness and Work-Life wanted to provide all UA employees an opportunity to get outside, take a break from work, and get some movement in and so Quad in Motion was created! The event also provides participants with activities, handouts, and other resources they can use every day at work to build a movement routine that works for them and their schedule.

During the event, participants traveled around the Quad visiting stations to complete activities and learn about the resources available to them at the university. Growing larger each year, this year’s event hosted eight stations: Workplace Posture, Adventure Outside, Spin Think Move, Finger Flexor, Functional Fitness, Fuel for Strength, and Balance Benefits. Among the station activities, participants could test their grip strength, learn how to set up an ergonomic work station, practice proper form while lifting a heavy object, and get to know proper protein intake to build muscle.

Quad in Motion would not be possible without the help of our amazing campus partners and volunteers: University Recreation, Project Health, Kinesiology Club, Coordinated Nutrition Program, Human Resources, Hinge Health, BlueCross BlueShield, and ComPsych. Thank you for your support and excitement as we help UA employees Move with the Tide!
