Your Summer Fun Routine

For Healthy Skin

We recently hosted a wellness webinar all about protecting your skin in the summer called Saving Your Skin from the Sun. Summer should be all about having fun, being outside, adventures with family and friends, and living your best life! The only thing that can ruin the fun is a nasty sunburn. Good news is, we can take steps to best protect our skin from the harmful rays.

Follow this routine before you head out on your next summer adventure so you can keep your skin healthy.

  1. Check the UV Index. Before you do anything, check the UV index wherever you check the weather. If the index is above 3, you’ll need extra sun protection.
  2. Apply sunscreen! No matter what the UV index is and what it looks like outside, you should always use sunscreen. Use at least SPF 50 to keep your skin happy and reapply when needed.
  3. Protect high-risk areas. The tip of your nose, back of your neck, ridges of your ears, and top of your head (especially if you have thinner or no hair) are all susceptible to burns and skin cancer. Wear a wide-brim hat, apply extra sunscreen to these areas, or wear extra fabric for protection.
  4. Grab your sunglasses. Most sunglasses have UV protection in them now, but look for glasses that are labeled UV 400 or 100% UV protection.
  5. Now go enjoy the sun! There are so many positive aspects to being outdoors and absorbing the sun, so follow these steps and reap those benefits.
