At our recent wellness webinar, Caring for Aging Populations and Their Caregivers, we discussed mental and physical considerations to help you age well. Aging is inevitable and can be especially challenging when others – your parents or other elders – also lean on you for support. Good news is everyone goes through the aging process, and many adopt a caregiving role, so there are plenty of people to learn from to stay strong while you age!
As you progress through the aging and caregiving process, or when you’re feeling overwhelmed, remind yourself of these three things.
- Physical changes are normal. Some diseases and conditions become more prominent and it’s typical to feel some changes as you age.
- Conditions can be reversed. Worsening eyesight and certain conditions such as obesity and diabetes are not always permanent and just take certain behavior change to reverse.
- The caregiver also needs care. If you’re caring for an elder, don’t forget to take care of yourself too! Take at least a few hours out of your week to do something you enjoy.
