4 Ways to Healthy Rehydration this Summer

We recently hosted a wellness webinar all about the importance of hydration called Don’t Wait, Hydrate. Hydration is key for total wellness all year round, but even more so in the summer. When it’s hot outside, drinking regular water can only keep you hydrated for so long. Your body also needs electrolytes to rehydrate by balancing the amount of water in your body, support muscle and nerve function, keep your heart rate steady, and move nutrients to your cells.

Electrolyte powders and supplements are all the rage right now and there are endless options, so how do you know which ones are right for you and your health? Consider these 4 tips when using electrolytes to rehydrate. It’s always a good idea to consult your doctor when adding or making changes to your diet and routine.

  1. Look closely for hidden sugars in the ingredients AND nutrition facts. Even if there are zero sugars in the nutrition facts label, there may be artificial sweeteners in the ingredient list!
  2. Choose a supplement with potassium, sodium, and magnesium. These three minerals are the most essential for rehydration.
  3. Consider replenishing electrolytes with a natural source like food. There are plenty of fruits and veggies that provide natural electrolytes like bananas, spinach, avocado, sweet potatoes, and more.
  4. Make your own with water, fruit, and pink Himalayan sea salt. By making your own electrolytes, you know exactly what you’re drinking, and you can change up the flavors with different fruit combinations.
