“You can do more than you ever thought you could” – Taylor

Briefly introduce yourself and share a bit about your background.

Hi! My name is Taylor Patronas and I currently serve as the Coordinator for University Programs. I’m a 2x graduate of UA and have been in Tuscaloosa since 2015. I enjoy being outdoors, coffee and my cats!

Describe the starting point of your journey and the factors that led to this decision.

I’ve always been into fitness and working on myself. My husband’s favorite form of exercise is running. He’s tried over the years to get me interested in running and I’ve hated it every time. But, in January, decided to try and take it up again. I’ve worked on shifting my mindset when it comes to running and it’s made all of the difference. Now, we’re both training for a half-marathon in June.

What specific wellness program has had a positive impact on you?

Couch to 5k has been pivotal in my wellness journey and falling in love with running. I’ve participated in Couch to 5k races at UA every year over the last 3 years. This year, I PR’d and ranked 3rd overall for my age group. It was a nice reminder that was progressing in my running journey.

How has your wellness journey influenced your daily life, including work, relationships, and overall well-being?

I feel a lot more motivated and positive after a run. Although it’s difficult during the exercise, the accomplishment I feel afterwards really drives my day. I think my energy levels have increased and my overall demeanor has shifted to a more positive outlook. I think when you are accomplish something you thought you never could, it changes the way you think about everyday life.

What advice would you give to someone who is just starting their wellness journey?

You can do more than you ever thought you could! I never thought I could run more than a mile. Sometimes, I still have those thoughts. But mindset is everything. If you tell yourself you can do it, you’ll be able to do it.
