The Power of a Walk with Coworkers

Briefly introduce yourself and share a bit about your background.

I’ve been happily married for 43 years and am proud to have two grown sons named Christopher and Kyle, both of whom are married to wonderful women named Beth and Emma. At home, I share my life with two beloved dogs, Thor and Mindy, while I also enjoy being the grandmother to three cats—Shell, Bean, and Theo—and a tortoise named Rory. Professionally, I’ve dedicated 23 years to the University of Alabama’s School of Social Work, Youth Services Institute.

What specific wellness program has had a positive impact on you?

I really enjoy the walking breaks we take at the office. They provide a wonderful opportunity to connect with my coworkers while also helping me unwind and recharge.

How has your wellness journey influenced your daily life, including work, relationships, and overall well-being?

Taking walks during our breaks has been a wonderful routine. It has helped me build strength, clear my mind, and develop stronger connections with my coworkers.

What was the last random act of kindness you did?

We’re fortunate to have two amazing students in our office who have been an incredible help to me. I’ve made sure to let them know how much their efforts mean to me personally. Additionally, we have a new employee who’s doing an excellent job. I like to take the time to recognize her work and let her know that I, along with others, have noticed and appreciated her contributions.
