Briefly introduce yourself and share a bit about your background.
I’m a Program Manager with UA Online, where I support students and colleagues in achieving their academic and professional goals. I’m passionate about fostering growth and balance in all aspects of work, education, and everyday life. As a former Academic Success Coach, wellness has always been something I’ve encouraged in others, but Strive for Five reminded me to also prioritize it for myself.
Describe the starting point of your journey and the factors that led to this decision.
I joined Strive for Five because I realized I’d fallen into a pattern of relying on processed and “quick” meals, which weren’t helping my health, energy, or budget. I wanted a little extra accountability to make healthier choices and get back into a routine that supported my overall well-being. The points system and activity tracking helped me stay mindful of my habits, and even though I didn’t join a team, I loved seeing the messages, tips, and healthy recipes shared by others across UA. It created a sense of community and motivation that kept me inspired throughout the challenge.
Which wellness practices or habits have you incorporated into your routine?
I started adding short movement breaks between meetings, going for outdoor walks to reset my focus, and using those moments to disconnect from screens. I also began tracking my hydration and making time to stretch during the workday (sometimes with the help of the Daily Stretch Series, hosted by UA’s Wellness and Work-Life team). Simple practices that make a big difference over time.
What specific wellness program has had a positive impact on you?
Strive for Five has been one of the most motivating wellness programs I’ve participated in. The accountability made it easy to stay consistent, and I appreciated that it focused on balance—movement, mindfulness, nutrition, connection, and purpose. It wasn’t just about hitting numbers; it was about building healthier habits that actually fit into real life.
What changes have you noticed in energy levels, focus, or other aspects of your daily routine?
I feel more energized and present throughout the day. I’ve noticed that taking time to move or breathe intentionally improves my focus and patience, both at work and in personal interactions.
What advice would you give to someone who is just starting their wellness journey?
Start small and celebrate progress. You don’t need a full lifestyle overhaul, just one small habit that sticks can create momentum. The most important thing is consistency and self-kindness. Wellness isn’t about perfection—it’s about showing up for yourself every day, even in small ways.
What was the last random act of kindness you did? (i.e left a kind note, volunteered time, gave a compliment, shared homemade treats, etc.)
For Boss’s Day, I wrote handwritten notes to thank my current and former bosses for their guidance and support. It felt meaningful to take a moment to express genuine appreciation, even if it wasn’t “random”. I also recently signed up for the Quad in Motion event and encouraged colleagues to join in. What started as a simple invite turned into a team effort. Seven of us ended up participating together, which made the experience even more fun.
